| JeT Introduces new 'Transit Watch' campaign: "Is This Yours?" |
"Is This Yours?" campaign encourages riders to report unattended items.
Jefferson Transit continues its dedication to maintaining a secure transit environment through its second Transit Watch campaign:
“Is This Yours?”
This campaign encourages riders, operators, and all associated with Jefferson Transit to be more aware of their surroundings by paying attention to unattended packages, bags, and other items on buses and at bus stops and bus terminals. If you see an unattended item, tell a uniformed officer, Jefferson Transit Employee or call (504) 364-3450 or 911 from a safe distance. Do not approach the package or bag.
The latest campaign from Jefferson Parish Transit Administration (JPTA) is part of a three year campaign to educate the public on how they can help to improve transit security for Jefferson Transit passengers. The purpose of this campaign is to increase public awareness of security issues, to encourage passengers to take an active role in keeping transit safe, and to inform the public of proper evacuation procedures during an emergency event.
Transit Watch is a nationwide public awareness outreach campaign that encourages the active participation of transit passengers and employees in maintaining a safe transit environment. The campaign was also designed to help foster the role of transit as a safe haven in communities across the country.
Transit Watch was developed by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) in partnership with the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), the Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA), the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
What can you do to help?
• Be observant, alert, watchful and aware.
• If something doesn’t look quite right, report it
to the authorities.
• Take the initiative and become the community's
transit eyes and ears.
• We can all count on a safe ride if we look out
for each other.
If passengers observe something suspicious, they should immediately notify their bus driver or other transit employee.
