Traffic shift at West Bank traffic circle to continue until late June
The traffic configuration at the West Bank traffic circle near the Huey P. Long Bridge will be in place until late June, officials announced this week. This switch, which began Monday, routes West Bank bound traffic exiting the bridge straight through the circle.
Bridge City Ave traffic coming from the west heading east is being detoured to the south on LA 541 (River Road) to LA 18.
This shift will be in place for approximately 10 weeks before the traffic circle is restored to its original configuration. Motorists are reminded to follow all detour signs and flagmen instructions, if present.
The completed Huey P. Long Bridge Widening Project will include three 11-foot lanes in each direction, along with new inside and outside shoulders across the bridge. The project also will include construction of new roadway approaches that will provide signalized intersections at Bridge City Avenue and Jefferson Highway. The entire project is scheduled to be complete by 2013.
