On Wednesday October 25, 2006 Jefferson Parish residents packed into the Alario Center for the annual Senior Citizen EXPO. The event, with a Halloween theme, was held from 10 am to 2 pm. This year the Jefferson Parish Senior Task Force partnered with West Jefferson Medical Center and East Jefferson General Hospital.
The EXPO provided seniors in Jefferson Parish with information on various services, programs, and functions offered by area businesses, non-profit organizations, hospitals, nursing facilities, clinics, universities, and government agencies. An estimated 3,500 persons attended the event and visited over 100 booths with information on a wide range of services available in the Parish.
Jefferson Transit sponsored one booth and provided seniors with information on the current ADA accessible fixed route bus service and the MITS paratransit service, operated by Jefferson Parish. Jefferson Transit staff also handed out t-shirts, fare pouches, and candy.
The EXPO offered seniors a day of entertainment, too. Volunteers and seniors dressed in costumes for the occasion, and the EXPO sponsors added lots of fun Halloween decorations throughout the Center . Overall the EXPO was a great success.
