Featured Operator: CONCHETTA CARTER
"I love it and it makes me happy. Working at JeT, I feel that everyone is important."

When asked to describe the best thing about her job, Conchetta Carter instantly responds, “The people, I love the people. It’s the same people and they get to be like family, when they don’t see you they ask about you.”  This aspect and many others are the reason Conchetta loves working for JeT. 

Born and raised in New Orleans, Conchetta worked several places before joining JeT as a bus operator, but none of them felt as comfortable as her current job.  “I feel that God called me to this job,” states Conchetta, “I love it and it makes me happy. Working at JeT, I feel that everyone is important.”  Conchetta has worked for Jefferson Transit for almost seven years, and her favorite route to drive is the Westbank Expressway, although she’s driven them all.  Conchetta says that it is lovely to work with her coworkers, because when on the route “we’re a team and we all look after each other.” 

Conchetta’s expert driving skills caught the attention of Jefferson Transit Management because of the way she handled what could have been a potentially horrible accident on the Crescent City Connection. Someone cut in front of the bus Conchetta was driving, and because of Conchetta’s quick thinking and excellent response skills no one was hurt in either vehicle.  “For me it was an out-of-body experience.”  “I just found myself working on instinct to do what I was trained to do in that situation.”

When asked about her future plans, she would like to put her daughters through college and open more doors for them than she had in the past.  She wants to buy a bigger house to fit all of her grandchildren and to show them how hard their grandma worked.  She also plans to stay at JeT until she retires.  “Since I started at Jet I have accomplished so much and learned so many different things.”
