Jefferson Parish Transit Administration Thanks Voters
for Millage Approval
Mr. Ryan Brown, Director of Jefferson Parish Transit Administration would like to thank the voters of Jefferson Parish for approving two separate property tax renewals on April 4, 2009 that will help finance public transportation.
Voters renewed a 1-mill tax for Jefferson Parish’s Mobility Impaired Transportation System (MITS) by 66.76% (19,521 yes votes). This tax generates $2.4 million annually for the MITS service, which uses wheelchair-accessible vans to pick up residents for appointments, work, or other trips.
Voters also renewed a 2-mill tax for the Jefferson Transit fixed route bus system by 61% (17,623 yes votes). This tax generates $4.8 million annually for the JeT system, which provides the public with 10 bus routes that cover over 1,000 bus stops within Jefferson and Orleans Parishes.
