JeT Bus Roadeo 2007

Jefferson Transit sponsored a Bus Roadeo for fixed route operators to demonstrate their bus maneuvering skills and to compete for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. The event was held on Sunday, October 28, 2007 at the Westside Shopping Center parking lot. Eight operators participated in this event, including Karen Gardette, Carlos Westley, Donnie Small, Sam Maclies, Lloyd Turner, Charlie Wilson, Sidney Joseph, and Eric Carroll. Other JeT staff from Veolia participated in the event by setting up the roadeo course, organizing the event, providing refreshments, judging operator performance on the course, cheering on the participants. Guests included family and friends of the JeT operators.
The Bus Roadeo course included the following station maneuvers:
- Serpentine
- Off-Set Street
- Rear Duals Clearance
- Right Turn
- 1st Passenger Stop
- Left Hand Reverse
- Left Turn
- 2nd Passenger Stop
- Right Turn Reverse
- Diminishing Clearance
- Judgment Stop
The winners of the 2007 JeT Bus Roadeo were:
1st place – Carlos Westley
2nd place – Sam Maclies
3rd place – Lloyd Turner
The winners will have an opportunity to participate in the LPTA state-wide roadeo and the 1st place winner will attend, compete and represent JeT at the national APTA bus roadeo in 2008.
Veolia Transportation, Inc., the fixed route contractor for Jefferson Transit, covered all expenses for the event and provided t-shirts for those who participated or assisted with the event. Special thanks go to Lionel Walker, Wade Evans, Donald Williams, and Orlandez Pierre, for their help in organizing this event.
